Beautifully restored Tuscan House

If you are planning a trip to Tuscany, Italy, then there are certain "must see" places that one should visit.

Planning your trip and your places to stay is all important. Maybe you want to be in the city, or maybe you want to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

Of course Florence is the capital of Tuscany and for the first time visitor, probably on top of the list. With a wealth of museums and beautiful architecture you will be spoilt for choice! Pisa and the leaning tower are world famous, perhaps climb the tower and visit the baptistry when you fly in. (Pisa airport is the most likely airport that you may use). Lucca is a walled town near to Pisa and well worth a visit, with it's cobbled streets, museums, churches, piazzas and good choice of shops, along with numerous cafes and bars to quench your summer thirst. Lucca is close to the hills, where you can find many a restful place to stay after your explorations. Passo a Sella is one such place, situated just over half an hours drive away from Lucca it is ideally placed to explore!

From this beautiful spot, you can reach many of the most desired "tourist" spots with ease, yet on your return to the house, just unwind and enjoy the stupendous views whilst sipping your prosecco.

Florence is about one and a quarter hours away (in the car), but driving into Florence is not recommended, so parking up at a nice quiet station, then catching the train to Lucca is a good recommendation. From Lucca you can then take the bus or train to Florence, and not worry about parking! San Gimignano is about 2 hours away and well worth the drive...a beautiful hilltop town. (picture postcard stuff), also about 2 hours away the Cinque Terre, a world Heritage area and stunningly beautiful! The walk along the coastal path well worth the effort!

closer at hand there are many small and quaint villages, for example, Celle Puccini (15mins), where Puccini's family house is situated which is now a museum, Barga...a famous hilltop town, Bagni di Lucca for the thermal Baths, and the meeting place of some of the Roman Triumvirates, Pescaglia (5 minutes), Pisa is an hours drive, the Versilian coastal area is a 50 minute drive, Carrara famous for it's marble, The Garfagnana area for it's mountains and stunning scenery, Montecatini.....and many many more.

Of course one should not forget the food! Italians are passionate about their food, and their restaurants reflect this passion. The choice is so varied, that once again the visitor is spoilt for choice. The city restaurants all cater very well for the tourist trade, but for the more adventurous, the "local" country restaurants offer a gastronomic feast, often using produce literally produced on their doorstep. The tastebuds will not want to return home!
